SDG Architects was commissioned to design three installations in the downtown core to provide an identity to the downtown and a symbol for Brentwood. The first installation is the Gateway Arch that spans the main entry into the area and welcomes visitors and residents alike to Downtown Brentwood. The second is a median entry monument on Second Street that leads to City Hall and the downtown area. And lastly, a creative signature fountain in the heart of downtown to provide a place to relax and enjoy the area. These installations were designed with regional influences and were meant to be artistic and engaging. The Gateway includes two bronze tactile maps of the downtown area, two bronze sculptures of locks and latches (many of which were donated by local residents) designed by SDG Architects. The fountain is tactile and meant to be touched and experienced. The fountain includes the City motto of ‘Heritage Vision Opportunity’ in an expanding stainless steel spiral adorned with colorful gemstones. Located in the Streets of Brentwood, Fusion 3 Salon is 2,100 square feet of beauty, relaxation and calm. Conceived as a space solely focused on client comfort and relaxation, Fusion 3 was edited to its essence. Utilizing the existing concrete floor and exposed ceiling, the space opens up and feels light. The soothing color palette, artful displays and accent lighting further express the richness of the materials. The floating soffits over the salon stations and the register serve to evoke the form of flowing hair while serving as the perfect location for the salon’s signature ceiling mounted hairdryers. The shampoo room is fitted with an art wall of flowing curves which is accentuated with up and down lighting. This room also boasts glass tile walls and 4 shampoo stations. Recently, Penrose Plan 4 at Barrington by Standard Pacific Home was recognized for design excellence by being award the Gold Nugget Merit Award for Best Single Family Detached home 3,000 sq. ft or more on a conventional lot. The home was designed to fit within the larger fabric of the Barrington neighborhood and as such compliments the surrounding homes by providing strong visual interest and articulated massing.

SDG has won the MetalMag Architectural Award for its design for the Delta Fence Office and Warehouse. MetalMag will be showcasing this project in their May issue.
